With 2016 right around the corner, it is the perfect time to reflect on what you are instilling in your children related to finances. Keep it simple, manageable, and measurable!
To keep it simple, focus on one core area: earn, spend, save, donate, or invest.
Next keep it manageable by creating a chart, using an app, designating a specific time such as Money Mondays---first Monday of the Month.
Then, be sure to acknowledge your children's efforts by measuring (or reflecting) on accomplishments. Some ways to measure include going over their bank book (hard copy or online) with them to acknowledge where they started and where they are at now, counting the money they have accumulated in their piggy bank this month before heading to the bank, or using a simple budget to help them understand spending habits and trade offs.
Whatever you choose, keeping it simple, manageable, and measurable will make it a positive experience for 2016!
